OUR SERVICES

Parasite Prevention

One key aspect of pet wellness is protecting them from parasites that can threaten their well-being. We offer a comprehensive approach to parasite protection, addressing common threats such as fleas, ticks, intestinal worms, and heartworms. Regular parasite prevention gives you peace of mind, knowing that you’re doing everything you can to protect your beloved companion, allowing them to enjoy more quality time with you.

Fleas

Fleas can be a year-round issue and often go unnoticed. Common signs of fleas include:
• Scratching
• Biting
• Hair loss
Though fleas need a host to survive, their eggs can live in your pet's environment without being detected. That's why we recommend a preventative flea product that can be applied to the skin or taken orally, as opposed to flea collars or shampoos. Talk to our team at O'Connor Vet to find the best flea treatment for your pet.

Intestinal Worms

Puppies and kittens are particularly vulnerable to intestinal worms.
Regular worming should begin early, with treatments every two weeks until 12 weeks of age, then every 1-3 months afterwards.
Worm prevention is a continuous process and part of your pet's routine healthcare. Pets can pick up worms while exploring, walking, or interacting with other animals. Common intestinal worms in Australia include:
•Tapeworm
•Roundworm
•Whipworm
•Hookworm

Ticks

Pets who spend time outdoors, especially in long grass or near native wildlife, are at a higher risk of ticks. While there are several preventative options such as shampoos, sprays, topicals, tablets, chews, and collars, no method is 100% foolproof. We recommend regular tick checks by running your fingers through your pet's fur, particularly around the face, ears, and neck.
If you notice a tick or your pet shows any of these symptoms, contact O'Connor Vet immediately:
•Weakness in the hind legs
•Coughing or retching
•Difficulty breathing or rapid breathing
•Vomiting or regurgitation
•Change in voice or bark
•Loss of appetite

Heartworm

Heartworm is a potentially life-threatening parasite that can affect dogs and, in some cases, cats. Prevention is the key to avoiding this dangerous condition.

Regular parasite prevention gives you peace of mind, knowing that you’re doing everything you can to protect your beloved companion, allowing them to enjoy more quality time with you. Contact us today to discuss the best approach for your furry friend’s parasite protection and overall well-being.
